MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIR JOHN TOWNEND AM
“Dear supporters
Today at the request of Council I have agreed to move our presentation of the Marian Street Theatre Business Plan to the 12th June.
Following the decisions taken by Council on Tuesday 8th May, management have a new strategic direction for the funding of the theatre. Here Council voted to re-assert Marian Street Theatre as the location for theatre in Ku-ring-gai, and to include the theatre in Council’s Long Term Financial Plan – in plain speak, to put it in their budget. While no funds have formally been allocated as yet, this is huge progress…and may even mean the theatre is re-opened faster than expected!
Therefore, it will aid them (and our cause) to have a couple more weeks to work through the best funding for the Marian Street Theatre restoration.
Bottom line this is good news, though we’re not there yet!
What can you do to help?
The primary thing you can do to help is take part in the ‘Big Friend Challenge’ – challenge one friend to also become a ‘Friend of Marian Street Theatre’. Please forward on this email, or send through this link: https://mailchi.mp/fb4ffaaa44d3/big-friend-challenge.
Please also (if you haven’t already) take the time to contact the Councillors to make your voice heard. Contact details and a draft letter is on our website.
We look forward to see you there on the 12th June, Council Chambers in Gordon – don’t forget to wear red in support of the theatre. As always, keep an eye on your emails as date can (and often do) change.
Best wishes
John Townend AM
Chair of Save Marian Street Theatre”
